Pilates for Osteoporosis

pilates for osteoporosis

If you have been diagnosed with Osteoporosis, or its precursor, Osteopenia you are probably aware that there are important steps you can take to mitigate the condition and live a fuller, happier and healthier life. Diet, medication, exercise and postural and movement awareness may help you prevent the osteoporosis-related fractures that affect over 50% of women over 50! Talk to your doctor about the options that are best for you. If he or she recommends Pilates or yoga, in San Diego your best choice is Marshall Eklund PILATES.

Pilates exercise has long been recognized for the role it can play in two of these steps, exercise and postural and movement awareness. People with Osteoporosis have significant posture and movement restrictions that must be followed to avoid fractures. These include spinal flexion (any forward bending), excessive wrist pressure, leg abduction, and spinal twisting. Developing good posture is also critical. The Marshall Eklund PILATES Studio has designed a Pilates program especially for clients with osteoporosis. Page break
