Emily has been involved in fitness and movement for most of her life. She was a competitive gymnast as a young girl, then decided to explore the art of dance. She fell in love and has been dancing ever since. She trained in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Hip Hop. Emily's first dance instructor discovered her talent and ability to teach movement. She began as an assistant teacher at age 12 and was teaching on her own at 14!
Emily taught and danced for mulitple Bay Area professional dance companies and studios. She also created and directed Youth Outreach Dance Companies giving underprivileged teens a safe environment to express themselves artistically, be positive role models for their peers, be inspired to do well in school and live their dreams.
After teaching and dancing professionally in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Emily came to understand the importance of listening to the body's need to heal. During her journey to heal her own body she also wanted to help others. She discovered the healing arts, and began to study alternative healing modalities. Emily became a certified massage therapist (CMT) and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).
Along her journey Emily was introduced to Pilates while working as a Physical Therapy Aide. This experience gave her the appreciation and understanding of how important it is to have good posture and body alignment whether playing a sport, dancing or living life. When Emily began practicing Pilates on a regular basis, her own pain went away.
Emily greatly respects and appreciates STOTT PILATES for their anatomical focus, precision and detailed training programs. Emily has been teaching at this studio since mid-2008. She is currently working toward a degree in Business Management.
